Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about playing FaceDuel.

Privacy

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Your photos are opened and analysed inside your own browser. They are never uploaded to FaceDuel or to any AI service, and they're gone when you start a new duel or close the page.

Do you keep my face data?

No. The face points are measured in your browser's memory just long enough to pick a winner, then discarded. FaceDuel doesn't identify anyone and doesn't store faces or measurements.

What does a shared link contain?

Only the FaceDuel address (plus “?challenge=1”, which shows your friend a “You've been challenged!” note). It never contains your photos or your result. The result picture only leaves your phone if you share or download it.

The game

How does the AI decide?

An AI face model maps hundreds of points on each face, then FaceDuel compares facial symmetry and proportions. See How it works.

Is the result accurate? Does it mean someone is better looking?

No. It's a game. Symmetry and proportions are a playful stand-in. Beauty is personal and no app can measure it, or anyone's worth.

Why is it a “dead heat”?

When the two faces are too close to call, FaceDuel calls it a tie instead of guessing.

Will the same photos always give the same result?

Yes. The same two photos always give the same winner. Angle, light and expression all play a part, so for a rematch, try different photos!

Why don't I see a score?

On purpose. It's a duel, not a test, so FaceDuel only shows who takes the crown.

Photos

Why was my photo rejected?

FaceDuel needs one clearly visible face. A photo is refused when no face is found (very dark, blurry, covered or side-on faces), when there's more than one person, or when the face is too small in the picture. Try a closer, well-lit photo.

Do turned heads or selfies work?

Yes. Angled faces, tilted heads, selfies and expressions are all accepted. Front-facing photos with good light give the most reliable results.

Which formats can I use?

JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC (iPhone), GIF or AVIF, up to 10 MB each. iPhone photos are converted on your device when needed.

Can I use photos of other people?

Only of adults who have agreed to be compared. Never use photos of children, and never use FaceDuel to tease or shame anyone. See our Terms.

Using the site

Is FaceDuel free? Do I need an account?

It's free, and there's no sign-up, email or app to install.

Why is the first photo a bit slow?

The first time, your browser downloads the AI face model (about 15 MB including its engine). After that it's saved in your browser, so later duels start quickly.

How do I share my result?

Tap SHARE after a duel. On phones, your phone's share menu opens with the result picture and a link to play. CHALLENGE A FRIEND shows WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Download and Copy link options.
